MURSI

East Africa-Ethiopia: Pronounced Mur·see

Scent Notes: White Tea & Cashmere Plum

About The Tribe

The Mursi wear nothing. Instead of wearing clothes they paint themselves with white clay. The purpose of the white clay is decoration, but the clay also protects the Mursi against the burning sun and insects. Decorating the body is a social activity and the Mursi take plenty of time for it. It often happens near the Omo river, because they use the wet clay from the soil. Before the clay dries, the Mursi draw patterns with their hands on their skins. When the clay eventually dries, it changes into the white color. They are well known for their majestic lip-plate.
